A Landmark Year for the Adelaide Equestrian Festival

The Adelaide Equestrian Festival is shaping up to be one of our most exciting editions yet, and as Event Director, I am incredibly proud to share that in 2026 we will host our largest field of competitors in over six years.

This milestone reflects the strength and momentum of our sport, and the enduring appeal of Adelaide as a world-class destination for eventing. With the inclusion of the Oceania Championships, we are set to welcome the very best combinations from across Australia and New Zealand, creating a truly international contest at the highest level.

Behind the scenes, preparations are well underway. Our Cross Country course build is in full swing, supported by a full complement of Australia’s leading course builders. In the coming days, we will also welcome our New Zealand colleagues, who bring their expertise in dressing the course — adding the detail and finish that makes Adelaide so unique.

Course design remains at the heart of the competition, and we are fortunate to have an exceptional team leading this effort. Mike Etherington-Smith, Clayton Fredericks and Mick Pineo have been meticulously surveying the parklands this weekend, joined by Assistant 5* Course Designer Ewan Kellett. Their combined experience and attention to detail will ensure a track that is both challenging and fair, while showcasing the natural beauty of the Adelaide parklands.

We are also excited to unveil a refreshed event layout for 2026, including a return to the heritage gates as our main entrance — a nod to tradition as we continue to evolve the Festival experience.

Beyond the competition, we have carefully curated an event that offers something for everyone. Spectators can enjoy award-winning entertainment for the whole family, alongside a vibrant selection of flavours from some of Adelaide’s most popular street food vendors. With five big screen TVs positioned across the site, visitors won’t miss a moment of the action — no matter where they are on course.

We are incredibly grateful to our valued stable of sponsors. We are proud to be associated with you and look forward to showcasing your brands to our audience both onsite and through our broadcast production on Horse & Country and Channel 9.

A special mention must go to the South Australian Tourism Commission, whose belief in our event continues to drive its success, recognising the loyal band of spectators who return to Adelaide each year to experience the largest equestrian sporting event in the Southern Hemisphere, with approximately half of all ticket holders travelling from interstate.

As the only urban-based horse trials in the world, our team faces a number of unique challenges. However, it is through collaboration, passion and commitment that we bring this event to life. I would personally like to thank our Board, members of the Sports Committee and our incredibly small but dedicated team for their ongoing support.

We encourage all ticket holders to download our new Festival App and save it to your home screen, so you can stay up to date with all the latest news, schedules, and happenings throughout the event.

Above all, this year’s Festival is about bringing people together — from passionate equestrians to first-time visitors — to witness the very best of the sport in a truly iconic setting.

We can’t wait to welcome you to Adelaide.

See you there.

I trained myself to remain steady after mistakes in Geometry Dash instead of restarting instantly. That composure led to a successful run.
