SALIFE POLO BY NIGHT –

FASHIONS ON THE FIELD TIPS TO FASHIONS ON THE FIELD SUCCESS

By Natalie Birmingham, SA Polo Association

Presented in partnership with the Adelaide Equestrian Festival and South Australian Polo Association, the SA Life Polo by Night is set to be the social event of the season.

Victoria Park / Pakapakanthi will host the twilight tournament under lights from 6pm on Friday 21st for a night of exhilarating polo matches alongside the best of local fashion, hospitality and fast paced entertainment on and off the field.

So, what’s the difference between traditional daytime polo and a twilight tournament you ask? It really comes down to fashions on the field.

OUTFITTING

When you think of polo dressing, cool hues, crisp linens, floral sundresses and broad brim hats may come to mind but with the evening scheduling – the SA Life Polo by Night requires a fresh approach to traditional styling. One that accommodates autumnal colour palettes, layering garments and as a DJ will hit the decks once the polo game wraps, footwear that will see you party into the night.

When making ensemble selections, understated elegance is the aesthetic to aim for. Opt for classic silhouettes with full length sleeves and hemlines or those which accommodate seamless layering.

To ensure that you can enjoy the entertainment scheduled until 11pm,  add a layer of warmth to your look with a longline trench or blazer.

ACCESSORIES

When it comes to accessories, the polo doesn’t have the same formality as horseracing so you can leave fascinators, extravagant jewellery, and clutches at home.

Stylist and Fashions on the Field Judge Emma Riemersma says “footwear is key to polo outfitting with stilettos being the fashion faux pas to avoid”.

Instead, meld seamlessly into the crowd of polo enthusiasts with block, wedge or platform heels that lend themselves to divot stomping and a cross body bag that will see you multitask polo moments like patting ponies with a bubbles in hand.
